Handbook Note 31/113: Configuration Manager (Could be Better)

Note 31 of 113 of Delphi 2007 Handbook

Note 31: This is quite an odd process in my opinion: Letting a user pick a configuration for a given project from its own shortcut menu without opening the Configuration Manager would have been better in my opinion.

Page 72 covers the Build Configuration Manager (new in Delphi 2007), that lets you pick a build configuration (Debug, Release, anything else) for the following compile/build operations. Don't take me wrong: having multiple configuration settings is one of the new features I like best. It is only its UI that I don't particularly like.

Handbook Note 31/113 Configuration Manager Could be Better

It will be more convenient if CodeGear follows
Microsoft Visual Studio's style. Using a combo box to
a select configuration for all projects like VS is
preferred.

Sometimes I think SharpDevelop's configuration manager
is also a nice implementation.

Handbook Note 31/113 Configuration Manager Could be Better

The "configuration manager" was a long-awaited 
feature (Turbo Pascal allowed to save and load 
configurations!!!) that has been implemented in the 
usual half-baked way. For example I'd wish:

1) Project group level configurations that can be 
overriden at the project level.
2) "Configuration templates" that can be assigned to 
a project (maybe selection what options to assign, 
i.e "compiler", "linker", etc.) without having to go 
project by project changing each option.
