Last week Embarcadero released Delphi XE5 for Android, as you probably know. I was on the road, and my blog post slipped a bit, but here is goes, starting with a few links:
There is much more, of course, including a few reviews by magazines and influential bloggers, some MVP blog posts, some complains, and so on. I'll get to some of the technologies in XE5 and some of the "open issues" in the coming days.
Stay tuned. This is a very relevant Delphi release, for sure. A great year for Delphi!
PS. Let me finish hosting the "What's new video":

Delphi XE5 for Android Released
Well, I would have loved to play with it. But having
just paid >1200 Euro for Delphi XE4 Entp., three weeks
after it was released, less than five months ago... Now
EMBT wants me to pay another >1200 Euro for an update to
XE5 - I simply feel ripped off. Sorry, but this is NOT
going to happen. Anywhere within 500 Euro would have
been sensible, but not that much! Sorry, but something
is going terribly wrong here with the update-pricing-
strategy.

SA Ripoff
I know its all covered in the licence and that, but
that does not mean that Delphi Pro SA users get
nothing in 2 years. Yea, nothing. I payed a lot of
money for 2 years of SA.
Now you can argue that mobile is enterprise and not
Delphi Pro, but I feel that if you promote it as
"Delphi language going native on the mobile" then Pro
should at least get something. I would even buy a
"higher" SA if the prices would be reasonable. But
cmon, for one man company they are not.
That means the last SA year for me. I will use other
products for Android and IOS development which I feel
are also better and have a longer lifetime expectancy.
I burned myself once with .NET compact framework for
Windows Mobile, I will not do it again.

Delphi XE5 for Android Released
I bought RAD Studio Professional XE3 with SA in December 2012 (that's
less than 1 year ago).
When XE4 came out a few months later, I was of course still covered by
SA, and got RAD Studio XE4 with the iOS addon for free (covered by SA).
And just today, I downloaded RAD Studio XE5 Professional (with Android
and iOS support) at no additional charge....because I'm still covered by
my software assurance from December last year.
I hear a lot of complaints about Software Assurance. However, my recent
experience with purchasing RAD Studio Pro XE3 with Software Assurance
has been entirely a positive experience.

Besides of this (minus-)marketing skimming pricing
issues (which seem to harm the commnunity) and real bad
problems with external keyboards (both on iOS and
Android [ QC 118983, 115727 ]) and a problem with
rendering of texts [ QC 118674 ] I am very happy with
the release. It will increase the value of Delphi for me
tremendously once the here stated QCs are fixed.
So keep up the good product management.

Delphi XE5 Pro New Features
Wanted to reply to the person with Pro (without mobile) maintenance. In
XE5 you get:
+ The core FireDAC, with local database access and in-memory table
component and much more
+ Substantial fixes to the Ribbon controls
+ The new REST client library
Might be less than you'd like, I understand, but it does not equal to
nothing (FireDAC in particular)

Delphi XE5 for Android Released
I bought XE3 Enterprise in December 2012 (less than 1
year), during which time the Embarcadero has released
two versions. The value of the upgrade to XE5, here in
Brazil is around US$ 2,400.00, which I think is absurd
for those who just bought an earlier version.

Delphi XE5 for Android Released
I think pricing of the delphi product is a big
problem. I bought the delphi XE4 professional edition
in May, I code in delphi mainly as a hobby so buying
upgrade assurance is too prohibitively expensive. The
pricing of delphi has helped to destroy the user base
in the north west of the uk. I would love to get a job
coding delphi in my area, but there are very few jobs
here and its a good job that I only code for a hobby
at the moment!
Ripping of existing customers is a bad idea.
Embarcadero needs to get it's marketing strategy right
and do something positive to build a user base here in
the UK. I want to see adverts in magazines, extolling
the virtues delphi over c#, i.e the fact that you can
compile on multiple platforms and it produces native
exes. I would also like to see a sensible pricing
strategy that reflects delphi's current position in
the market. Embarcadero should also do special deals
for schools and educational establishments and
incentives for teaching pascal. It is a very bad for
your business if you type in "delphi xe5 review" into
google and up comes the delphi haters blog as the
first hit in the google search results: you must
silence your critics, give them nothing to complain
about. Delphi is technically a great product please
help it flourish once more!
