The Delphi 2006 trial is available!
You can now download the from http://www.borland.com/downloads/download_delphi.html. This is certainly good news: Delphi developers are at work.
Now I suggest all the developers who are skeptical about the quality of recent versions of Delphi (and there were good reasons) to download the trial and give it a go. IN particular, existing Delphi 6 and 7 developers should try it out, read my online ebook to grasp the new features, and see how much the new editor really helps in writing better code faster.

Delphi 2006 Trial
Delphi 7 was much better than Delphi 2005 and perhaps
2005.
1. I don't like the idea of embedding code editor and
form designer into a single window. That's
inconvenient and slow (try switching from code editor
to form designer when you have many controls placed
on the form). The code editor itself is great and
robust.
2. Component palette takes too much place. I've got
accustomed to the icon representation of each
component I use (I believe every other Delphi
developer did) and I rarely need to read its name.
Though you can customize palette's look I've never
been able to get the pre-Delphi 2005 look of it.
3. Starting from Delphi 2005 help file got awful.
Most of the functions and keywords are on a single
page and not found in the index. The index itself
disappears very frequently (is it a bug in MSHelp?).
I still use Delphi 7 help (which is a bit outdated
for Delphi2005-2006 i presume).
4. It takes almost a minute to start the IDE with a
single personality. I have 768MB of RAM, 2.6Ghz of
CPU power and my HDD is defragmented.
5. BCB team did a great work on BCB 2006. The
compilation is much faster than with BCB6. Dual
packages are great. But including Dinkumware instead
of STLport was a bad idea, imo. I had to dig google
to learn how to use hash_map<std::string, int>
because there's no key_compare for string in the
library.

Delphi 2006 Trial
Hopefully, this will help those that have purchased
Delphi 2005 and are skeptical about going with another
Delphi product.
Delphi 2005 (Enterprise) takes about 30 seconds or so
to load all personalities on my machine (3.6 Ghz, 2GB
Ram), although 30 seconds seems like F O R E V E R
when you are trying to load an app. Not only that, it
just seemed kind of clunky/buggy - it was a little bit
agravating - especially considering how good 7 was.
It takes me only 6 seconds to load the Delphi 2006 IDE
on my machine (just using the Delphi personality).
It took me a while to get used to some of the changes
from the Delphi 7 "look" to the Delphi 2005/2006
"look". But now, after using 2006 for the past
couple of months, I like it so much more than 7. (Of
course, I didn't have to fork over any money for it...
my employer did. =-)
