Q3 2007: CodeGear Keeps Doing Fine
Borland has released its financial statements for the third quarter, with the first profit in some time. CodeGear has made 1.7 million dollars out of revenues of 12.5 millions. The real news is that the rest of the company lost very little money in this quarter, so the the overall Borland corporation could post a profit, the first in quite some time. This is certainly good news.
What I like though, is the overall stability of CodeGear, with revenues at 14.1 - 13.6 - 12.5 millions in the three quarters 2007 and earnings at 1.9 - 1.3 - 1.7 millions. Well done. Anyone interested in buying/investing in this focused and profitable company?

Guillem, yes, I mistyped it. My son woke up while I was almost done with the post... and I rushed it a bit with him sitting on my knees.Comment by Marco Cantù [http://www.marcocantu.com] on November 9, 11:21

I always wonder why Borland has traditionally treated their compiler products with near contempt even though they are the only ones in the company that make any money. Sure it isn't a high growth business and it is only a fraction of their total revenue, but they lose on the 'high growth, large portion' of their company. Last quarter ALM revenues jumped 21% to 47.4 million, but once again, they lost money on the deal. Reminds me of the old joke about two guys who buy watermelons for a dollar each, drive them 100 miles away to the city and sell them for a dollar each. Over time they finally realizing they are losing money, so they decide to get a bigger truck hoping they can make it up in volume ;-). All I can say is I am really glad Codegear is semi-independent now, go Codegear.Comment by Leonard Gallion [http://analoghacking.com] on November 10, 00:13

Based on the 10Q financial report. Borland suffered significant 3Qtr revenue decline in US (-41%) while growth in Germany (+39%) and UK (+206%). The company should focus more on promoting its products internationally and for the CodeGear group, drop the JBuilder product line as it is a loosing group. The loss in JBuilder offsets any gains on the Delphi products. IDLComment by Impatient Delphi Loyalist on November 11, 23:59
