Germany - Italy: 0 - 2
Nothing do to with Delphi, for once...
In the World Cup semi-final, Italy defeated Germany with two scores in the last two minutes of the extra time. Great match, indeed. (Well, at least for Italians, Germans are certainly not happy). Now millions of people in Italy got on the streets to rejoice, you might see it in the news. We'll see what happens Sunday, during the final. If you are not a football nation, as we are, I doubt you can understand this, but if you live in Europe or South Amarica, you know what I mean.

It WAS a nice match to watch, even for a neutral viewer. And the luckiest team won. Congratulations Marco ! PS. > Now millions of people in Italy got on the streets > to rejoice, you might see it in the news. Perhaps Juventus fans won't be so cheerful today. :-(Comment by Ruud Schmeitz [http://www.mosasoft.nl] on July 5, 04:37

Congratulations. Although I live in China, a country with a bad enough male soccer team, I can feel the heat of World Cup all around me. As a matter of fact, I wish Italy could win the cup this time. They are so amazing!Comment by Lex Mark [http://blog.csdn.net/lextm] on July 5, 08:40

Hi Marco, maybe not happy with the result, yes we aint, but happy with the team and its results we are, anyway ;- ) Good luck for your guys, though my hopes have shifted to Portugal for now. They are playing great too, this year. But time will tell, so have fun watching on Sunday, while I am sitting on a train back home. What a match, super stuff. At the start I was dreading an Italian early goal, as I thought they would typically then shut down the game. But how wrong could I be. There is no way they wanted to go to penalties and me neither. I was chearing for the hosts at the start but one could deny Italy, a brilliant win. I think it'll be a repeat of the euro 200 final, same score line too, with France winning 2-1! What a way that will be for Zidane, the magician of the tournament, to finish his career lifting the world cup. Good luck in the final.Comment by boardtc on July 5, 15:45

Unique match indeed! Congratulations to Italy from Mexico, It was a minute by minute effort for both germans and italians. Mexico is not in south America and we are a natural football country too. Congrats to all teams, France, Portugal and of course, Italy for the great football you are developing. It is so far a very interesting cup.Comment by Salvador Gomez Retamoza [] on July 5, 21:04

I live in a "football" nation, yet I can't understand it <g> But probably I saw enough of the misfortunes of world to believe eleven guys kicking a leather ball on the grass are anything more than eleven guys kicking a leather ball on the grass.Comment by Kent Morwath on July 6, 10:20

We now know it will be Italy vs. France, although France didn't really shine against Portugal. And for you (many) comments: - "Italia vs France sounds like a great final": indeed! - My set of football nations was clearly too limited: Mexico is certainly in the group, and Asia is getting hot on football as well... - "repeat of the euro 200 final, same score line too, with France winning 2-1": what about the opposite scoring, for a change? <g> - "eleven guys kicking a leather ball on the grass": elevent very rich guys... but it is more than that. For Italy, which is far from an economic or political power, it is a way to get in the spotlight... and for Italian immigrants around the world often a sort of revengeComment by Marco Cantù [http://www.marcocantu.com] on July 6, 10:30

Hello Marco, i am a real Dortmunder living in Dortmund too. This event was the greates Party the town has ever seen. I find a nice place to see the game open air with good cold beer and 60 german fans and two italien. After 118 minutes of play time 60 people are absolutly still and 2 are jumping on their seats and crying forza italia, viva italia. But congratulations, in the extra time the italian team had the better chances to made a goal and have deservedly won. I hope italian will win the next game, so we can say, only the world champion could stop us. :-) Here you can find some pictures from Dortmund at 4th of july: http://tinyurl.com/fbqxlComment by Heinz Zastrau [www.ruhrknall.de] on July 6, 12:58

I think Italy has exhausted its fortune. Winning in the last second against Australia & Germany seems enough for one tournament. I hope France will win with a penalty in the 90th minute of the final. Then one can say Italy has gained another "crucial experience". Allez Les Bleus. Salut, Mathias from SydneyComment by Mathias Burbach [] on July 6, 16:00

"For Italy, which is far from an economic or political power, it is a way to get in the spotlight... and for Italian immigrants around the world often a sort of revenge" That's exactly the biggest problem of Italy: they focus too much on "stupid" things and never on the really important ones - it's the "macho" attitude that never makes people and nations go far. Italy *is* an economical power or it wouldn't be in the G8 group - only its political ineptitude and disdain of the rules cast a dark shadow on its economy. And eleven rich guys kicking a ball won't improve it. It looks only the "circenses" ancient Rome used to keep the plebs calm.Comment by Kent Morwath on July 6, 17:38
Italy - France: who knows?
I don't really understand why people retains our love for football, pizza and girls as a "macho" attitude... but not looking so far, it's a nice way of life!Comment by Italico [http://www.infopa.net] on July 6, 23:31

The fact that you - and many other Italians - do not understand it explains the current situation of Italy perfectly.Comment by Kent Morwath on July 7, 13:05
On Italians
Kent, I think you are oversimplifying, I guess, and buying into the "italian" stereotypes common abroad. Any nation would be proud of winning an Olympic or the FIFA Worldcup (as football is one of the most popular sports in the world, like it or not). It raises prestige. It ends up moving money (for a tourist destination like Italy, being in a "positive" spotlight helps a lot!). Political ineptitude, we got a lot. Macho attidute, I don't think. Disdain of the rules is an issue. I value people who can enjoy life higher than workaholic people... but, again, this could take a lot of time to explain, to I'da rather stop here... and hopefully close this thread drift.Comment by Marco Cantù [http://www.marcocantu.com] on July 7, 13:30
