Embarcadero has bought the products and related intellectual property of Qadram, the makers of RadPHP (originally Delphi for PHP) and hired the founder, Jose Leon.
I've been told that Embarcadero has bought the products and related intellectual property of Qadram (a Spanish company), the makers of RadPHP (originally Delphi for PHP) and hired the founder, Jose Leon.
From the limited information I have (since there is no official announcement at either company web sites) it seems the acquisition is not limited to RadPHP and that there will be a developer team in Spain working for Embarcadero. In any case, Jose Leon profile on LinkedIn clearly states: "Director of Engineering and Branch Director at Embarcadero Technologies":
From what I can understand, this is a smart move and a further proof that Embarcadero in investing in development tools. And congratulations to Jose!

Embarcadero Buys Quadram and Hires Jose Leon
If this is real, this is very good news. Jose is a
sharp developer, and a good person as well.

It is very good to see "fresh" news surrounding
Delphi (and related products) - it makes me feel much
better about my (continued) long-term investment in
Delphi and 3rd-party components.
IMHO, seeing upcoming events from Marco & Cary, Bob
Swart and the "Developer Solutions Conference" are
all signs of a healthy (recovering) Delphi eco-system.
Regards.

Since the latest news on Qadram's site is about
Embarcadero pairing with them to release Delphi for
PHP (still an awful awful name, dilutes the delphi
name) back in 2007, I suspect this deal was all about
keeping Qadram from closing its doors and taking its
product with them.
Makes you wonder about the whole Delphi for PHP
product line really.
Of course, I could be wrong.

C Johnson, I think you are reading too much into the web
site. Quadram main product was never sold directly, but
licences to Embarcadero, hence the limited information
on the site. From being partners, now they have been
hired (if I got it right, they didn't sell the company,
but the assets), adding a new team to Embarcadero. And
that is good.

I am Spanish, and i am very proud that Jose Leon works
for my favorite development company. Good news for
spanish developers, and for embarcadero.
Enhorabuena, Jose.

@C Johnson - that's just a website that never got
updated (bit silly keeping it up mind), and
Embarcadero renamed the product RadPHP for the last
release (http://www.embarcadero.com/products/radphp),
so the complaints about the 'Delphi for PHP' name no
longer apply.

@Marco -> No, I think you misunderstand. My
position is that based on the website, working on
Delphi 4 PHP is about all Qadram actually does.
Based on your comment, it seems you agree.
Now, if this is true, why would Embarcadero feel any
need to change the arrangement? I suppose they could
do it reduce what they pay to Qadram, but why would
they want to make less money? Unless, of course, a
short term block payment and employment for a SINGLE
person would improve their position in this
arrangement.
And there you have the crux of my thought process.
What does Embarcadero and Qadram get out of this deal
to make it worth moving money around?
My thought that it keeps Jose working and the base
product from vanishing in a bankrupcy or business
shuttering is a very common reason for such an
arrangement.
And selling your primary asset AND loosing your CEO -
what is left except a corporate structure worth the
licensing fee it takes to incorporate? It's a little
like buying everything except the core of the apple,
don't you think?

C Johnson,
I did approve your "rant", although I was on the
verge of deleting it.
Yes, RadPHP is all Quadram did and that is a product
Embarcadero licensed without having full rights. Now
they have full rights. And hired a talented developer
and want to create a larger team around him. Saying
this is done to avoid a "bankrupcy" is just a random
guess on your side (unless you have specific
information), which is just annoying speculation,
IMHO.
Embarcadero is moving from a loose partnership to a
full deal, which is good from both side. They want to
invest in more IDEs, in PHP and possibly other
languages...
"Selling your primary asset and loosing your CEO"...
we are speaking of an (almost) one-man company, you
know... like if Embarcadero were to hire me, I'd shut
down my company and would sell them whatever asset
they feel valuable. They certainly don't want to buy a
very small company, it is more complicated (and
expensive, from legal paperwork) than buying the
assets and IP.
Anyway, unless you have real info, please stop sending
these kind of comments.

Still a point of critisism. RadPHP is not a very good
product, loaded with (very) old bugs of the age of
D4PHP. If this is not changed then this is not a good
sell of Emb IMHO.
