Delphi XE Enterprise Double Discount

I don't generally blog about commercial offers, but this one can be quite interesting for many of you, so I think it is worth to mention.

Embarcadero is trying to move all existing Delphi users to Delphi XE Enterprise, by offering a rather good deal. You can upgrade from XE Professional (which is generally not allowed), you can upgrade at a 500 USD/Euro discounted price from older versions, and you can upgrade (for this month only) also from very old versions (giving you another 500 USD/Euro off compared to the full version).

So if you have, say, Delphi 7, you can migrate to Delphi XE Enteprise at half the normal price. Which makes it quite nice. Of course, on top of the product you'd probably need soem good documentation, like my "Collection of Delphi Handbooks" merging together my books on 2007, 2009, and 2010. Buy it and I'll get you an extra section on Delphi XE for free (hopefully soon).

We did metnion this offer over the last two days in Bergamo and Bologna (where 50 + 50 Delphi developers, most on old versions, gathered for a free event) and they were indeed quite interested. Some also asked about giving the Starter Edition to student who occasionally contribute with them on minor projects. More info on the Upgrade Amnesty at http://www.embarcadero.com/radspecial and on the XE Enterprise Upgrade Special Prices at http://www.embarcadero.com/radoffer.

And if you are in Italy, you can buy at my online shop at http://shop.wintech-italia.com/.

I already have the offer in my Inbox ... also + SA is
a very good option. Mabye time to take the
opportunity.

I was missing this ... finally the difference is the
SA in the first year and SA just means earlier
payment of the same if someone doing regular updates
it is more cost effective I think at least from my
experience with the E/R Studio over 11 years now.

I have RAD Studio 2010 Enterprise.

While I enjoyed the extra productivity of Delphi, the
lack of 64-bit has hurt my business and I had to
switch to Visual C++.

There is a small windows of opportunity for
Embarcadero to lure me back, but it will be nearly
impossible after I buy 3rd party frameworks for native
C++ and .NET this year.

The productivity I lost was made up by being able to
use many open source C++ libraries that can be static
linked into my executables.

I hope RAD Studio 2012 does so well that Microsoft has
to drastically improve their native C++ IDE.

I have used Delphi/c/c++ since the beginning, and I
am very disappointed in the way that the upgrades
have been progressing and the lack of helpful pricing
plans. I have had lost opportunities while being
loyal to Borland and on and on. Why be loyal to a
brand that does not help loyal developers. I have
since had to move to c# and Visual Studio for the
past couple of years. I have been hoping that Delphi
would be something that I could get back into since I
have always loved the syntax of Pascal, however, I do
not believe that I will ever be able to afford the
upgrade pricing.

Embaracadero lossed our company when they enacted
their rediculous pricing scheme (Maintenance scheme).
We had been using Delphi since 1995. We currently
still develop using Delphi 7 and we own one licenced
copy of Rad Studio 2010. However, this is only to
maintain our legacy code. We went from 9 Delphi
programmers down to one. Me! We have turned all our
attetion, new code and projects to Java. Thanks for
scaring us away Embaradero. BTW, we also use to
license Interbase as well. And with each of our new
clients, they sold new licenses for Interbase too.
They lost all that! I see a downfall to Embarcadero.
And I see it very soon. Its a shame!

I wished that some people that are using old Delphi
versions would upgrade. It would make everyones life
easier.

For me maybe little radical approach is Delphi +
Working Open Source - this corner in general is
performing well.

Finally guys every IDE has a complementary and this is
content. It will be hard to outperform the masses of
implementations in the "meanstream" world but what we
can do is to provide open source stuff that works.

I personally would also be more radical ... third-
party components only 2 versions back max 3.

SHanw!

I what point did EMB scare you away?

The fact that Windows Software is an expensive concept
in this point I agree because it is the only plattform
beside Apple that still follows the way of
applications. This concept is simply successful.

Java is not an application approach. It is built to
engineer complex systems and by far not a bad thing,
especially when can benefit from Linux or more general
UNIX derivates including OS/X.

What you did is - you changed the technology I tend to
say you changed the with the paradigm but at an early
point in time. This is normal. You decided for another
way.

Rich!

I tend to think, EMB will be wise to move away Delphi
native from Microsofts path and they already
positioned Prism in this corner. I was also surprised
about the way WPF was evolved especially WPF/E with
.net 4 and VS 2010 and the C/C++ portion. Again I see
VS more and more as the tool for the MS Partner. This
is the lock in.

Anyway MS never had a problem wasting time of their
partners. I could imagine like music bands - EMB plays
the music for the Delphi developers and those who
simply support their way. Maybe they play cover
versions in a new but different way, it is not false
play the hits. I could imagine they put it with the
time into the Enterprise corner with RAD. This way it
will find it's corner. Why should a company support
people that already divorced or consider their
demands... business is not done this way.

EMB started from a given situation and moving forward.
Things have become better now 3 releases. Also EMB
cannot take over themselves and is bound to ressource
limits.
