CodeRage 2008 Started

The online CodeRage 2008 conference has just started. I'll be giving two talks today, and two tomorrow.

The online CodeRage 2008 conference has just started (http://conferences.codegear.com/coderage08). Right now there is the initial keynote, with Micheal Swindell, David I, and Greg Keller. Micheal Swindell is talking, giving an overview of the technology landscape. Will post my impressions later.

I'll be giving two talks today, and two tomorrow. Today I'll be covering "Unicode in Delphi 2009" (at 2 pm Pacific Time, 11 pm Central European Time) and "The Secrets of the Delphi 2009 RTL" (at 3.15 pm Pacific Time, 12.15 am tonight/tomorrow Central European Time). Sessions are prerecorded, but I'll be there live to answer questions during the final Q&A... and for chatting while the session recordings run.

Tomorrow I'll give a talk about "The Fun Side of Delphi goes Unicode" (at 2 pm Pacific Time, 11 pm Central European Time) and "Generics and Closures" (at 3.15 pm Pacific Time, 12.15 am tonight/tomorrow Central European Time). I'll also be attending many talks, dwell in chat rooms, and have a virtual stand in the exhibit area for promoting my book.

At CodeRage 2008, later today, I'll announce the availability of my Delphi 2009 Handbook, with a special 20% discount for the first 60 who buy it. A couple of hours to go for the offer... I'll blog again later.

Sorry to say it, but I found your talks yesterday to
be almost unwatchable here, even on a good quality
broadband connection. Flipping quickly from form to
code to run, constantly fiddling with the code to
scroll the item of interest to the centre of your
screen, describing the content before it had painted
here - there were long periods when NOTHING of your
screen was visible because of constant repainting. I
was really looking forward to your presentations,
because your books are exceptional (just ordered the
latest one), but they were dire to watch. Sadly, I
see you pre-recorded them, so today's are unlikely to
be fixed. Next time, please wait at least a couple of
seconds after a full window repaint or window switch
before doing anything to force another one - perhaps
tie a 2kg weight to your wrist to remind you!

Tim,

you are right, with the slow repaint flipping the
screen caused a very weird effect. In the source
video, the flow is smooth and the video update
immediate. Things weren't so bad with last year
streaming system, while the new one causes significant
delays.

I guess there is nothing I can do for today's talks,
but you'll be able to re-watch them next week, and
hopefully the download version will be better...
