Delphi People: Danny Thorpe, Nick Hodges, Ramesh Theivendran, and Steve Shaughnessy

Lots of news about members of the Delphi community... very different, but all relevant.

I've been in the mountains for a week with my family for Easter. Lots of things happened, so I'll need multiple blog posts to catch up. This first covers many topics, as it tells about different people in the Delphi community.

Danny Thorpe "moves" to Microsoft

Danny Thorpe, who left Borland in November, has moved to Microsoft, to work on Windows Life, as you can read in his new blog. Good Luck, again... Interesting to notice that Microsoft is really getting serious about this Windows Live stuff (don't get confused by the name, it has nothing to do with Windows) to hire programmers from their core competitor in that space, Google. By the way, it is also interesting that Danny will apparently not move to Redmond.

Nick Hodges is recovering

Nick had health problems but it now recovering. Good to know... and good luck (even if a little late). Take the due time, Nick, don't rush... even if many in the Delphi community will miss your blog.

Ramesh Theivendran going and Steve Shaughnessy returning

Ramesh, Delphi database architect, has left Borland for Falafel, where he will join many former Borlanders and Delphi R&D members. His role will be taken by Steve, who had worked on JDataStore, left Borland recently, and is now back. Good luck to both of you...

Hodges: my best wishes.
Theivendran: Good news. dbExpress was really
implemented badly, and its Oracle driver a joke. One
of the big mistakes of the latest releases of Delphi.
Shaughnessy: hope you will be able to do far better.

Hello!

Life or Live?

Windows Life (which will really be Vista 2.1) will
reside in a flat panel monitor with wireless keyboard
and mouse. No box, no hard drive. Just a multi-core
cell processor with a slot-load HD-DVD drive and
built in wi-max.

Processing will be distributed between all public
machines on the network (even when not in use by the
user). Files will be stored remotely, applications
will be on a subscription basis (get Photoshop XT for
as little as $9.99 per month).

There will be no boxes to buy at the store, no paper
user manuals.

Google will have their version, two or three really
good versions of Linux, and Mac XXX

so let it be written, so let it be done.
