Delphi Newsgroups Stats

Asked by a friend, I've collected some stats from the visits on my web front end to Delphi newsgroups, delphi.newswhat.com.

My site delphi.newswhat.com is a web-based front end to read (and write) Delphi newsgroups. It is quite a popular sites, with thousands of daily visits. The site tracks the usage by group, adding up requests to get the list of the messages in an area with requests for the actual threads in the group. Overall 17 area have passed the 10,000 hits mark. Here, they are, listed by frequency:

  • non-technical
  • thirdpartytools.general
  • ide.general
  • language.delphi.general
  • internet.winsock
  • language.delphi.win32
  • language.basm
  • modeldrivenarchitecture.eco
  • oodesign
  • database.ado
  • oleautomation
  • database.dbexpress
  • database.general
  • graphics
  • vcl.components.using.win32
  • aspdotnet.general
  • language.delphi.dotnet

Hope this helps providing some indication of what Delphi developers are looking for...

Delphi Newsgroups Stats

Hoi Marco

I did not realise that you are behind the newswhat
site until now. Delphi.newswhat.com is a useful site
for Delphi newsgroups, however I do believe that there
are even much more people reading Delphi newsgroups
through Google groups.

Your priotied list of read access more or less fit
with the number of postings to the group. Many writers
= many readers. The most easy way to see the posting
stats on Borland newsgroups is to visit Microsoft (no
kidding). MS research run this service where they make
accumulated stats over all the public newsgroups. Go to:

<http://netscan.research.microsoft.com/>

and search for groups with delphi in the name. The
order of groups with most writing traffic are:

 1. b.p.d.non-technical
 2. b.p.d.thirdpartytools.general
 3. b.p.d.language.delphi.general
 4. b.p.d.language.delphi.win32
 5. b.p.d.ide.general
 6. b.p.d.modeldrivenarchitecture.eco
 7. b.p.d.language.basm
 8. b.p.d.internet.winsock
 9. b.p.d.graphics
10. b.p.d.nativeapi.win32

From the Netscan stats you can also see that many
Delphi users in Poland, Italy and Deutschland prefer
Delphi newsgroups in their own language. This goes in
line with other stat tracking that do show that DE, IT
and PL have quite a lot Delphi users.

The newswhat.com site is resonable well visited, but
your personal site marcocantu.com have about double as
many daily visitors. Can you confirm this?
