Delphi Documentation Online

With the launch of docs.codegear.com some of the Delphi documentation is now available online.

It might have passed unnoticed in the middle of all the Tiburon blogs, but I think this is really relevant. CodeGear launched docs.codegear.com, the new central location for products documentation. From there you can download the latest help files for all products and in various formats (including PDF!).

What might not be apparent, as you first visit the site, is that portions of the documentation, including portions of the Delphi help are now available online for browsing. For example, you can find the help page about properties at:

      http://docs.codegear.com/docs/radstudio/radstudio2007/RS2007_helpupdates/HUpdate4/EN/html/devcommon/properties_xml.html

It is not a CodeGear MSDN, but it is promising... and reasonably fast for now (I guess it might get slower if many developers find it).

Delphi Documentation Online

still no language reference for D7 and no developers
guide nor language reference for D2007.

For long URLs like that document link consider putting
them through the service at tinyurl.com, to get a
simple short link.

Delphi Documentation Online

1) It takes ages to load indexes
2) It's not searchable
3) User can't add comments/corrections/examples - and
heaven knows how much the Delphi documentation needs
them. There are still lots of missing information and
misleading ones (Datasnap especially is a mess).

They just found out the ugly tool they use to develop
the help allows them to publish it in HTML format.
But it's really a long, long, very long way to a MSDN-
like tool.

BTW: every time I used the MSDN feedback I got a
reply. Everytime I used the Delphi help feedback I
*never* got a reply - and the missing data often are
still missing.
