CodeRage 2007 _6: Final News (and Delphi 2007 Shipping)

There was more, so here is another post... and Delphi 2007 is shipping.

A few more short takes:

  • Holger reports Delphi 2007 is ready to download in Germany. Steve Trefethen also blogs about the release of the product.
  • Tod Nielsen, Borland's CEO, spoke over a noisy phone connection from San Francisco. He spoke about the importance of developers. He mentioned when he spoke with Allen Bauer and he blogged about his meeting... so that everyone in the company wanted to meet him personally.
  • Ben Smith, CodeGear's CEO, talked about the final efforts of releasing Delphi 2007 (last night). He talked about the most relevant features of Delphi 2007, like the new installer. He says he's very happy for the very high spirit of the CodeGear people and the community at large.
  • There are now 237 people hearing in the Interwise client and 238 in the chat.
  • And David I ended with  "That's it for CodeRage." Bye.

CodeRage 2007 _6: Final News (and Delphi 2007 Shipping)

After finally looking at the closing video from
CodeRage, I want to change a statement I made a few
days ago about CodeGear calling their new PHP product
a subset of Delphi.

A short story...
As a Delphi developer of 12+/- years I had to endure
a lot of verbal abuse (for using Delphi) from the MS
Studio guys (20 C++ developers, 1 Delphi "me"). It
got so bad that I eventually started my own company
where I could make Delphi the only platform used.

I moved from C++ to Delphi because it spoke to me.
MS C++ was to non-visual, when people used to ask me
about it (in the old days) I used to say “with Delphi
I can feel it”. Since, my background was
Architecture and I did not learn programming in the
traditional way like others. The VCL components made
more sense in structure and layout. They never could
understand that, but I could and I’m still here to
this day.

My new opinion...
I'm glad CodeGear is going to use the Delphi name for
all of the targeted products. Maybe it will bring a
greater respectability to the “Delphi” name. When
users from the MS C++ world start using the "Delphi"
product because it's the best PHP, Ruby, AJAX
development tool available, that might get them to
stop crapping on the Delphi name. And, when a MS C++
user makes another statement to me like "you use
Delphi, do you like programming in Pascal", I can
say, no I use Delphi to program in C++.

CodeRage 2007 6 Final News and Delphi 2007 Shipping

from my perspective, i think a great challenge is for
delphi...

microsoft has fully copied vcl into .net...

asp.net development using vs2005...

if marco use vs2005 to redesign his website... i think
there would be a difference(though i appreciate ur
efforts on www. .com)

someone should pls tell me... does language have any
significance to software developers anymore...

on vcl and .net library, what are peoples reflection
on the impact of OS(especially one that has gained a
greater % of d pc world) on productivity....

pls i need insightful replies not minding how small
the reply is... my email is idmode07@gmail.com

thanks ... marco
