Beta of DelphiFeeds and new Eureka Blog

As probably know by now a new version of the popular delphifeeds.com site is available. Also my friends at EurekaLog are now blogging.

As probably know by now a new version of the popular delphifeeds.com site is available as a beta, at beta.delphifeeds.com. I like the concept of turning that into an actual community, with votes, favorites, and the like. I agree with other critical voices that entries (particularly the favorites on top) take up a lot of screen space: I can see only 5 entries with my browser full screen, compared to 8 in the current version of the site (I hate scrolling too much).

The other think I don't like a lot is the navigation into link sites with a frame, that keeps a reference to the delphifeeds. As I site owner I have being "taken over" by other sites, and at one time I spent a great effort to forbid framing my site. Having said this, I like delphifeeds, use it a lot (ans also their Twitter feed), think they are doing a good job making is more of a community, and will go for it despite any flaw... I think the "Gurocks" are making a great effort to help the Delphi community.

Finally, UI wanted to mention that my friends at EurekaLog are now blogging, at blog.eurekalog.com. Nice addition to the Delphi blogging community.

Beta of DelphiFeeds and new Eureka Blog

Thanks for mentioning the new DelphiFeeds.com beta and
thanks for the feedback. It's true that there are less
postings visible on the front-page with the new
design, but the difference is usually only one or two
postings. I think the addition of the popular section
(and pages) helps a lot of people who don't visit the
site every day. It's easier to figure out what
interesting content and important announcements have
been published recently. We might add an option to
hide the popular section though.

Regarding the frames: first of all, you can disable
this functionality under My Settings after logging in
with your DelphiFeeds.com account. We have added this
functionality to allow people who visit blog postings
via our feed or via twitter to vote, mark postings as
off-topic etc. This should help promote these new
features and makes sure that the votes reflect the
opinion of all our users, not only of those who visit
DelphiFeeds.com directly.

I don't mind the DelphiFeeds frame at the top of the
sites. You can close it at any time and there is a
setting on the DelphiFeeds site to turn it off
permanently.

I'm going to leave it on though. I like the
favourites, rating and off topic features and they're
nice and convenient up there.

We've just added an option to hide the popular section
on the start page to make more room for blog postings
(see the My Settings page for the option).
