Sybase (soon to be acquired by SAP) has released a new version of its powerful DB server, used by many Delphi developers (myself included). Advantage Database Server has a very good reputation in the Delphi community, sports native TDataset component descendants (free and with source included) that help migrate BDE applications, has both a super-fast ISAM access and a full SQL engine, has a free local version and a rather cheap deployment fee.
The new version 10 is fully Unicode enabled, has a much improved integration with the Delphi IDE (with enhanced properties and component editors), it is even faster, has extended transaction support, and much more. Given I've used ADS for several small projects, I plan installing and playing with it... also because I'm supposed to give a joint session on ADS 10 next Thursday (at the Italian Delphi Day event).
Disclaimer: I resell ADS in Italy, some of my events are sponsored by them... but only because I think the product has technical merit. Like Delphi, ADS is a somewhat hidden technology gem.
